Sexual Health Information
Being aware of Sexual Health issues is imperative in this day and age. Until the 1990's sexually transmitted diseases were known as STDs or STI' (sexually transmitted infections). People who are infected with a sexually transmitted disease such as HIV and Chlamydia may well be unaware that they are carrying the infection and may pass it on to sexual partners through sexual intercourse. Sexually transmitted diseased may also be passed from one person to another through the sharing of needles in drug use and once again a person may be unaware that they are infected and without having a professional sexual health test, may continue to be unaware and may be passing the STDs on through sexual intercourse.
This article is to be treated as an information guide only, if you notice any of the symptoms or are concerned that you may have contracted a sexually transmitted disease you should seek professional help in your local area immediately.
There are different symptoms that show for sexually transmitted diseases or infections that may make you aware there is an issue, but if you suspect you may have an STD don't panic, there is help at hand and confidential sexual health testing is now easily available through reputable surgeries, clinics and through online sexual health testing sites such as www.drthom.com. As you are probably aware, sexually transmitted infections are commonly passed on through sexual intercourse which includes vaginal and oral sex. It is possible for women to pass on infections to women, men to pass on infections to men and women to men, men to women. Many of the more common STIs can be treated with a course of antibiotics and more serious infections such as HIV can be controlled with drugs to prevent more serious symptoms taking effect.
Many symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease are not noticable. If a woman has contracted chlamydia and it is left untreated this can affect her later on in life such as her ability to conceive and fall pregnant.
If you notice any of the following symptoms you should seek treatment and have a sexual health test carried out and as we mentioned earlier, confidential services are running throughout the country. A Chlamydia test is free if you fall in to a certain age bracket and it is best to consult your own GP or clinic to see if you fall in to this category. The symptoms listed below can be found in both men and women;
Itching or a burning sensation around the genitals Pain when you urinate Lumps, blisters or sore areas around your genitals Black powder or white dots in your underwear Women may notice a vaginal discharge that may or may not be odourless Women may notice that sex is painful where previously it wasn't Women may bleed between their normal monthly cycle or after sexual intercourse Women may feel an abdominal pain Men may notice discharge from the penis
If you notice any symptoms get it checked straight away, it may be nothing but it's better to know to ensure that you don't pass the infection on to any future sexual partners.
