Phil Collins' Drum Teacher to Play in Kent

Posted on Tuesday, 15 May 2012 10:21AM by

On Wednesday 23rd May 2012 Lloyd Ryan, one of the UK's best swing drummers brings his fantastic quartet to the Dancing Dog Saloon in Bobbing for a one off performance in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Drummer Lloyd Ryan has had an exciting career spanning nearly four decades as a performer and educator. He is widely recognized as an expert of the big band style of drumming, having worked extensively with the Ken Mackintosh, Ray Ellington, Bob Miller and Edmundo Ross Big Bands, as well as major recording artists like Matt Munro, Tony Christie, PJ Proby, Cilla Black, Brotherhood of Man and The Platters. Lloyd is also one of the few UK drummers to have worked alongside the legendary Buddy Rich, as his support act at the Lewisham Jazz Festival in 1986.

Many of Lloyd’s former students have achieved great success and include drumming legend Phil Collins who was taught by Lloyd when he was a teenager. The event is the brainchild of another of Lloyd’s students, Chatham based drummer Phil Wilson who has since gone on to success with a number of established artists including Les Gray’s Mud in 1998 prior to which he played with a number of ‘60s bands, including Brian Poole and Screaming Lord Sutch. Phil has made numerous appearances on TV both in the UK and Europe, he has also played many of the top venues including the NEC Arena, Wembley Arena, Hammersmith Apollo and the Sport Paleis in Antwerp.

Phil says: “It will be a rare opportunity to see Lloyd in such close quarters. This will be an unmissable event for any music fan”

The evening will be opened by the Kent based Susan Fraser Duo. Singer Susan and guitarist Graham Cousins are well known all over Kent and will be entertaining the audience with a selection of jazz and pop numbers
