Deal is a coastal town in Kent, the Garden of England. Deal is about 8 miles away from Dover.
Deal is rich in history and back in the 17th Century was rife with smuggling. This was the era when sailing ships really became a huge industry which brought a lot of business to this coastal Kentish town. There are still signs remaining of the old tunnels built by those cunning smugglers who would do anything to avoid being caught.
Deal turned in to more of a tourist resort in Kent during the Victrorian era and the first wooden pier was built in 1857 which was quickly replaced by a more impressive iron pier in 1864. The latest pier in Deal was built 100 years after the original pier and still stands proudly today.
Deal is a hidden gem in Kent that is well worth a visit as there is something for people of all ages to do.
