MAKE WAY AS GIANT HOCKEY BALL DRIBBLES INTO MAIDSTONE THIS SPRING
The npower Big Dribble, 28 April at Maidstone Hockey Club 09:30

An eight foot, giant hockey ball will be rolling its way into Maidstone on 28 April 2012, as part of The npower Big Dribble. Now’s your chance to take part in a nationwide record attempt to ‘dribble’ a hockey ball an incredible 2012km. You could even send good luck wishes to the GB Hockey squad ahead of the summer’s Games by signing the giant inflatable ball.

The npower Big Dribble, organised by Great Britain Hockey and supporting national children’s charity WellChild, is inviting local schools, families, sports teams and businesses from across Maidstone to welcome the ball’s arrival and to get involved in a range of free, fun hockey related activities. The ball will arrive at 09:30 at Maidstone Hockey Club, South Park.

There will even be surprise visits from past and present hockey stars to some of the venues along the route. Test your sporting skills in The Cage Goal Scoring Challenge and Giant Hockey Skittles and enter a competition to win an electric scooter - complements of event sponsor, npower.

Joanna Irving, England Hockey Board Relationship Manager for Kent, Sussex & Surrey says: “The npower Big Dribble will arrive in Maidstone allowing locals to experience a taste of one of the nation’s favourite team sports. Having a go couldn’t be easier – it’s great fun and what’s more, no equipment or experience is necessary.

“Our vision is to capture the imagination of the British public, to inspire people of all ages, backgrounds and sporting abilities to get involved in hockey.”

The action-packed road show, which is due to stop off in 40 towns along its way, will begin its journey in Edinburgh on April 15. Over the course of the next 18 days, thousands of people across the UK will have an opportunity to get involved in the free to attend events which will celebrate hockey and create excitement ahead of this year’s big summer of sport. The npower Big Dribble will conclude its journey on May 2 when it will arrive at in Trafalgar Square for its grand finale.
For those unable to attend the event at Maidstone Hockey Club on 28 April, Great Britain Hockey is encouraging the local community to host its own ‘Little Dribble’ to raise money for WellChild; whether it’s in the school playground, at work or in the local park, there’s no better time to take part. Andy Halliday, Team Manager of the GB Men’s Hockey squad and Jason Lee, Head Coach, will complete their Little Dribble, supporting WellChild, at this year’s London Marathon on April 22.
The road show is also being used to test the UK’s Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Equipment will be transported in new Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL all-electric vans, powered using npower charging posts, in an effort to showcase EV technology, while identifying areas where further development is required.

Volker Beckers, Chief Executive Officer for RWE npower, adds: “npower has a long and proud tradition in supporting sport at all levels, and when we heard about Great Britain Hockey’s record-breaking campaign, we wanted to offer our support.  It’s our way of getting behind GB Hockey and wishing them all the best at this summer’s major sporting event. Both hockey teams have a great chance of collecting Gold medals.”
